Betsy is a most curious artist; a choreographer, dancer, actor, director, experimenter, she knows no boundaries. I met her at the festival in 2001 during a choreographer/ composer workshop. The culmination of the two week experiment showcased Betsy's solo performance of 'De Materie IV' at Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood Music Center. In the autumn of that year I visited her in her native Holland, where she introduced me to my Dutch heritage, eventually escorting me to the town of "Sleen", in the province of Drenthe. This picture was made in her apartment in Amsterdam. The little dress on the hanger was a favorite from her childhood which she wore as a two year old.
